Peacock or Peahen? The gender reveal party!
On September 17, 2018, we hatched out two peachicks.
We had no idea what we were doing, what the plan was with them, it was strictly an experiment. To try and hatch some peafowl eggs. Then we did. Now 10 weeks later, we know their gender.
Our goal was for a male and female, or a peacock and peahen, to be able to breed them in two years so we could hatch out more peachicks and sell either the peachicks or the hatching eggs for extra income.
Luckily for us, we got exactly that! Our male/female pair! Some have asked if we could breed them if they're related. First of all, they are from the same farm, but the likelihood of them being from the same peahen is unlikely since the eggs came from the same day or two apart. The father (peacock) is unknown, so at worst, these two are 0-50% related. I'm okay with that. Inbreeding is not ideal, but the low probability of relation is not a big concern for future peachick problems.
But the fun part of this video was the party that followed the gender reveal as we danced to Katy Perry's, "Peacock," song!
